Sugarbeet

Egypt

1. In newly reclaimed area:

a)      Nitrogen

·        In Calcareous and  Alkaline Soil

              75-90 N unit/Fad.

         As Ammonium Nitrate (33% N = 228-273 Kg/Fad) ,

       , Ammonium Sulfate (20.5 % N = 366 –440 Kg/Fad)

         or Urea ( 46.5% N = 162 – 194 Kg/Fad)

-Divide into three parts

1- After thinning and before irrigation

  2- After Next irrigation

  3- After follow irrigation

Note: Don't Add Nitrogen Fertilizer after 90 days age.

Applying of Agrospon Fertilizer decreases 25% from amount of Nitrogen fertilizer

·        In Sand Soil

      100-120  N unit/Fad

 As Ammonium Nitrate…(33% N = 303 - 364 Kg/Fad) ,

       , Ammonium Sulfate…(% N = 488 –586 Kg/Fad)

      or Urea ………………….( 46.5% N = 215 – 258 Kg/Fad)

- Divided into 5-6 Parts until 100 days age

b)      Phosphorus

·        In Calcareous and Sand Soils

     15-30 P2O5 unit/Fad.

        As Supper Phosphate… (15.5% P2O5 = 97-194 Kg/Fad.)

·        In Alkaline   Soil

     45-60 P2O5 unit/Fad.

As Supper Phosphate …(15.5% P2O5 = 291-387 Kg/Fad.) for improving    soil and aeration

    Applying:  during preparation of soil

c)      Potassium

24-48 K2O Unit/Fad.

As Potassium Sulphate(48% K = 48-96 Kg/Fad.)

Applying:  during preparation of soil or with the first part of Nitrogen Fertlizer

1.      In Clay Soil (Old area)

a)      Nitrogen

    60-80 N unit/Fad.

    As Ammonium Nitrate …(33% N = 182-243 Kg/Fad) ,

       , Ammonium Sulfate …(20.5% N = 293 –391 Kg/Fad)

     or Urea …………………...( 46.5% N = 130 – 173 Kg/Fad)

-Divide into two parts

1- After thinning and before irrigation

  2- After one month

b)      Phosphorus

     15-30 P2O5 unit/Fad.

        As Supper Phosphate… (15.5% P2O5 = 97-194 Kg/Fad.)

    Applying:  during preparation of soil

c)Potassium

24K2O Unit/Fad.

As Potassium Sulphate(48% K = 50 Kg/Fad.)

Applying:  during preparation of soil or with the first part of Nitrogen

Generally, organic fertilizer doesn't be applied to sugarbeet but the preceding summer crops or next one.

3- Characteristics of mineral nutrition:

During vegetation, beet plants uptake many nutrients.

10,000 Kg (10 tons )  sugarbeet and the respective amount of leaves require for their growth and remove from soil :

50 Kg Nitrogen   + 20 Kg P2O3  + 75 Kg K2O

Consumption during the age of Sugarbeet

4- Notes for Fertilization

1)      The sugar content increases, if the beet does not receive sufficient amount of nitrogen during the last 4 to 6 weeks.

2)      Increasing amount of nitrogen stops formation of sugar (Sucrose)  during stages of industry.

3)      Delaying apply nitrogen is due to delaying maturity of plant, decrease sugar % and decreasing percent of extract of sugar during its industry.

4)      After apply nitrogen, it must be irrigated immediately.

5)      Fertilizers should be applied in layers, so that at the first stage of vegetation the beet plant could use the nutrients from the first layer of soil , in the course of its growth, its root could uptake them from the deeper layers. In view of this , the fertilization system of sugarbeet included basic application drilling , and top –dressings.
